レッスン39：「～すること」という不定詞の使い方

こんにちは。戸田です。

今日は、「～すること」という意味を表す不定詞の使い方を練習します。

動詞の原形の前に「to」を付けることで、「～すること」という意味に変えることができます。

たとえば、

speak（話す）→ to speak（話すこと）

practice（練習する）→ to practice（練習すること）

という具合です。

この不定詞を使うと、

Hiroshi likes to talk with his boss.
（ヒロシは上司と話すことが好きです。）

のような文を作ることができます。

他には、

Chris wants to see Mt. Fuji.
（クリスは富士山を見ることを欲しています（＝見たい）。）

というように「want to」がよく使われます。

■ 英作文の練習

では、以下の日本語を声に出して英語で言ってみましょう。

分からないときは、すぐに英文例を確認してもＯＫです。

1. 彼女は、そのカフェに行くのが好きです。

2.私は、その新しいコンピューターを買いたいです。

3. 私の母は、和食を作るのが好きです。

4.彼は、警官になりたかったのです。

5.ヒロシは、休暇が欲しいのです。

6. 私は、減量することを決心した。

7. 彼女は、あなたのメールアドレスがほしい。

8. サトシは、エレキギターを弾くのが好きです。

9. 私は、あなたと一緒にいたいです。

10.彼らは、コンサートで、この歌を歌いたかったのです。

11.私は、来年、インドに行くことに決めました。

12. 私の父は、チェスをするのが好きです。

13.ヒロシは、私と来てくれることに同意しました。

14.マイコは、体重を落としたいのです。

15.私は、フランス語が話したいです。

16.私たちは、その新しい店を開くことに決めました。

7. 彼女は、あなたのメールアドレスがほしい。
She wants to get your e-mail address.

8. サトシは、エレキギターを弾くのが好きです。
Satoshi likes to play the electric guitar.

9. 私は、あなたと一緒にいたいです。
I want to be with you.

10.彼らは、コンサートで、この歌を歌いたかったのです。
They wanted to sing this song at the concert.

11.私は、来年、インドに行くことに決めました。
I decided to go to India next year.

12. 私の父は、チェスをするのが好きです。
My father likes to play chess.

13.ヒロシは、私と来てくれることに同意しました。
Hiroshi agreed to come with me.

14.マイコは、体重を落としたいのです。
Maiko wants to lose some weight.

15.私は、フランス語が話したいです。
I want to speak French.

16.私たちは、その新しい店を開くことに決めました。
We decided to open the new store.

17. 時間通りに仕事を終わらせることは、とても重要です。
To finish the work on time is very important.

18. 彼は、その話を書き始めました。
He began to write the story.

19.私は、来年、富士山に登ってみます。
I will try to climb Mt.Fuji next year.

20.私は、昇進することを期待しています。
I expect to get the promotion.

I especially like playing squash there.
特に、そこで、スカッシュをするのが好きですね。

■Chris:
I see. Look, I’m thinking about doing some exercise or sport.
そうなの。ねえ、私、何か運動かスポーツをしようと思っているのよ。
I’m wondering what’s good for me.
何がいいかしらね。

■Hiroshi:
Why do you feel that way?
どうしてそう思ってるんですか？

■Chris:
I’m gaining my weight these days.
最近、少し太っちゃったのよ。
I must lose at least five kilos.
最低でも5キロは減量しないと。
I played tennis in the States often, but not anymore.
アメリカにいた時は、よくテニスをしたんだけど、もうしていないし。
I really have to do something.
本当に何かやらなきゃだめなのよ。

■Hiroshi:
Well, I can send you the link to the gym.
じゃあ、ぼくの行っているジムのリンクを送りますね。
They have a lots of exercise machines there.
エクササイズマシンも、たくさんあるんですよ。
Also there is a swimming pool, squash courts, saunas and some yoga classes.
プール、スカッシュコート、サウナ、ヨガ教室なんかもあります。
※正しくは「there are…」です。ネイティブにもこの種の間違いはよくあります。
I think that you will like it.
きっと気に入られると思いますよ。

■Chris:
OK. Thank you very much.
オーケー。ありがとう。
You sound like you are really into sports.
あなたは、とってもスポーツが好きみたいね。
Do you like watching sports, too?
スポーツ観戦も好き？

■Hiroshi:

はい、好きですね。
I especially like watching baseball.
特に、野球観戦が好きです。
I am a big fan of Hanshin Tigers.
阪神タイガースの大ファンなんですよ。
That’s my baseball team in my hometown, Osaka.
タイガースは、ぼくの地元・大阪のチームなんです。

■Chris:
I see.
なるほど。
Baseball is very popular in the States as well, so I watched baseball games quite often.
野球は、アメリカでも人気があるから、私もよく野球を観戦したのよ。

いつか、東京ドームに行ってみたいわ。

It looks like a huge stadium.
すごく大きいスタジアムに見えるけど？

■Hiroshi:
Yes, I have.
はい、ありますよ。
I think that there are about fifty five thousand seats in there.
約55,000席あると思います。

クリスさんの地元のロサンゼルスの大きい球場は、何という名前でしたっけ？

■Chris:
Oh, it’s Dodger Stadium.
ああ、ドジャー・スタジアムね。
I think that there are about fifty six thousand seats there, so it’s about the same size as Tokyo Dome.
56,000席くらいだから、だいたい東京ドームと同じ大きさだわね。
Where is your favorite team’s home stadium?
あなたのお気に入りのチームのホーム・スタジアムはどこなの？

■Hiroshi:
It’s Koshien Stadium in Osaka.
大阪の甲子園です。
It is actually famous for the venue of the National High School Baseball Tournament.
実は、甲子園は、全国甲子園野球大会の会場として、有名なんです。
※正しくは「全国高校野球大会」です。

It’s exciting and moving to watch the tournament.
見ていると、ワクワクして、感動的なんですよ。
There is a custom that when a team loses the game, they take a handful of soil from the stadium for their memory.
試合に負けたチームは、一握りの甲子園の土を思い出に持って帰るのが、習慣なんです。Keep it in your mind to check it out next season.
来シーズン、気をつけて、見てみてくださいよ。

■Chris:
OK. That sounds interesting.
わかったわ。面白いわね。
I’m going to watch the tournament next season, then.
じゃあ、次のシーズンには、見るようにするわね。
Are there any other sports do you recommend watching here?※
他には、ここでおすすめのスポーツ観戦ってあるかしら？

■Hiroshi:
How about sumo?
相撲はどうですか？
Are you interested in sumo?
相撲に興味はありますか？

■Chris:
Yes, I do, but I don’t know much about it.
ええ。でも、あんまり知らないわ。
Where can I watch sumo tournament in Tokyo?
東京では、どこで相撲を見れるの？

■Hiroshi:
Kokugikan in Kuramae.
蔵前の国技館です。
I’m happy to take you there sometime.
いつか、ぼくがお連れしますよ。

※文法的に正しくは「Are there any other sports (that) you recommend watching here?」です。
「do you～」というのはChrisの言い間違いですが、こうした言い間違いは日常会話ではよくあるので、そのまま採用しています。
